OMG!! I can't wait to hear an update...he had been off-route for a few days along with Steve Ansell...what was up with that? The conditions must have been HORRIFIC for him to quit...

Sure hope YOUR adventure went well Jill...from what I can gather there's nobody left out on the trail....Beat and Steve were the last 2 as far as I could tell (I know it still shows some people as "active" such as Tim and Loreen Hewitt..howver if you click on them they are back in the states).

Matthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10517087265569164625noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18615538.post-83425854331025535802015-03-18T11:43:55.041-06:002015-03-18T11:43:55.041-06:00This is so far beyond the realm of an epic adventu...This is so far beyond the realm of an epic adventure that I can't even wrap my mind around it. I loathe being cold so I can't imagine how difficult this must be. As always, amazing pictures and writing.Cory Reesehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04211348156621152998noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18615538.post-20551071765925999772015-03-16T01:19:03.227-06:002015-03-16T01:19:03.227-06:00Don't worry to much about Beat, he is stubborn...Don't worry to much about Beat, he is stubborn enough to enjoy his journey, while making it count !!!Marnitzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05704268753006398461noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18615538.post-46228184627766639212015-03-15T17:47:56.280-06:002015-03-15T17:47:56.280-06:00Wow Jill...the things you and Beat do for FUN! I c...Wow Jill...the things you and Beat do for FUN! I can't say for certain how all stoves work in extreme cold (I'd call 20 below extreme), but I know many years back in the high Sierra's my brother and I got stormed on good (we were above 10k'), and I also had an MSR stove (the mulit-fuel version...uses white gas, unleaded gas, high alcohol booze and a few others I can't remember).

Anyway...we stopped fora hot-lunch cuz we were soaked and freezing, and I was trying to get MY stove lit to boil some water. FAIL! My fingers were numb from the cold and I couldn't get it running...too many parts to deal with. But in mere moments my bro pulled out his JetBoil, dumped the contents out of the titanium pot, screwed the isobutane cartridge to the stove, set the pot on the burner, poured in the water, turned a knob, and pushed the "ignite" button, and viola...he was making hot water in about 30 seconds. I bought a JetBoil after that trip and it's the best stove I've ever had. My MSR sits in my attic in case of the zombie-apocalypse. Of course there's an O ring in the bottom of the JetBoil where it seals the cartridge, so can't say how it would work when it's that cold (and I hope to NEVER have to find out).

Be safe on your trek into the cold, and I'll be watching and sending my thoughts and energy to Beat as he slogs his way toward Nome.
