But what that ride would have amounted to was around 50 miles, mostly dirt, with a big climb up and over the mountains to connect one highway corridor to another. Even a best-case scenerio at my pace probably would have taken closer to five hours, and it certainly would have been nice to know that. At least I would have taken more water, food, and put new batteries in my lights knowing we'd definitely be out after dark. But John's fast and maybe an eternal optimist. Still, I have to laugh at the idea of "three hours."

And, as you guessed, John had a patch kit but the glue was dry. I had a brand new patch kit sitting on the counter at home where I intentionally placed it so I wouldn't forget it, and then I forgot it. Come Monday, I'm going out to buy a half dozen patch kits and sticking two on every bike I own. :-)Jill Homerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02983065990450931943noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18615538.post-32903202480146035622010-07-18T08:24:06.850-06:002010-07-18T08:24:06.850-06:00Great ride report, been there ! But I ask you this - what would you take on an evening ride that you were told would be a mellow three hours? Two liters of water, a single rain layer, a bike tool, a spare tube, tire levers, and a pump? Sounds pretty good, right? I was also lucky enough to have lights, a tail-light, iodine, and, if worse came to worse, a few chemical warmers to stick in my shoes if I had to sleep out. I'd say, for the circumstances I believed I was embarking on, I was decently prepared. I think the lesson here is to not trust my friends. :-)Jill Homerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02983065990450931943noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18615538.post-74928565260256359562010-07-18T00:12:40.291-06:002010-07-18T00:12:40.291-06:00Just an observation...you seem to run out of water...Just an observation...you seem to run out of water A LOT.
