I was saving it for the right moment. I enjoyed every word, especially the photos. If they didn't capture it, I can't wait (still) to see it for real. Maybe one day.Trepid Explorerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06071442052388717266noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18615538.post-20677869886356455612018-04-04T03:47:00.784-06:002018-04-04T03:47:00.784-06:00Bravo Jill!Bravo Jill!Helenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04051160693725705930noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18615538.post-18069335327458136922018-04-02T11:22:12.564-06:002018-04-02T11:22:12.564-06:00Way to go, Jill! I presume you're referring to ...Thanks Mark ... I presume you're referring to my progress in the ITI? Because although I had a long baked potato stop at mile 40 of the WM100, I really did spend most of the rest of that race moving at a trackable speed. ;-)

Although I was one of the original advocates of SPOT trackers for safety, much to ITI organizers' dismay, I'm not a huge fan of the current format of tracking for this particular race. The largest reason is because "dots" can't tell stories, and the speculation is sometimes painful. It's also hard for me as a spectator to not be the one making anxious speculations about my loved ones. Finally, at the competitive end, much of the old wilderness-race mystery has been removed. But the "dots" are fun.

As for the long blocks of time spent by myself, that is exactly why I seek these endeavors. My mind isn't free in my day-to-day routine, held prisoner by a number of neuroses, bad habits, comfort-seeking coping mechanisms, etc. When my body is laid bare to the world and it's just me, I find a kind of clarity that I never experience in "real life." Does this lead to fascinating insights? Maybe, sometimes. Most times, it's just clear-minded existence in positive emotions — peace, joy, ecstasy, love. Like many who participate in endurance sports, I find bodily fatigue and some pain to be a necessary part of the transition, but it's difficult to explain this to most, and as you pointed out, few will understand.Jill Homerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02983065990450931943noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18615538.post-60746355023840016062018-04-02T08:31:38.788-06:002018-04-02T08:31:38.788-06:00Those days-on-end races...so much time to be held ...Those days-on-end races...so much time to be held prisoner to one's thoughts, which, in your case, largely revolved around taking your mind off the pain. I wonder, if they could be played back, whether they would provide fascinating insights, or just amount to so much mile-passing tedium/delirium? (I fear my mind would be the greatest obstacle...)
I would imagine there is "Poetry" to be found in such strenuous endeavors, tho few could identify/understand.
Tho It was almost painful to track your progress...wondering if you had dropped or was just resting...your race resumption always provided joy and inspiration. Congrats.
markBox Canyon Blog.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07032055509766739436noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18615538.post-7600320781086641732018-04-02T07:10:26.991-06:002018-04-02T07:10:26.991-06:00Really enjoyed reading this!
