I also can't eat a lot of bars, basically any of the ones that have a chocolate coating I can't eat stomach. I do mostly Larabars, Clif bars and Oats & Honey.

I eat a lot of Ramen on trips too. It may not be healthy but it tastes delicious. If I have the space I bring fresh veggies and put them in with whatever else I'm eating. I tend to do the instant rice, couscous, ramen with veggies route for dinner, cold leftovers in tortillas for lunch and oatmeal with peanut butter for breakfast. I always have a stove though, I am a cold person and it's difficult for me to stay warm without hot food and drinks.

It's interesting to hear that I'm not the only one that can't eat those Mountainhouses I feel like everyone swears by! Great post-trip gear review, I really like to hear what systems other people develop for their trips!alligatorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01434832761806066033noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18615538.post-42558567431236658932011-12-14T20:44:49.586-07:002011-12-14T20:44:49.586-07:00peanut butter, honey, banana, and bacon sandwich. ...peanut butter, honey, banana, and bacon sandwich. You want energy...try that one. Damn near blew my head right off. Premake it but you may want to hold off on the honey till consumption, it tends to run out everywhere.

I second the pizza. I make a Papa Murphy's 5 meat stuffed pizza and carry the slices in zip lock bags. Put a teaspoon of water in the bottom of your pot, stuff your slice in there lightly (not crammed to the bottom) and set the stove to about medium heat and cover. In about 5 min you have a nice warm, steamed (therefore not dried out) pizza. Try eating just one of those after a long day on the trail.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18615538.post-30492538800272147232011-12-14T12:40:32.757-07:002011-12-14T12:40:32.757-07:00One other thought re food, when doing Mountain Mar...One other thought re food, when doing Mountain Marathons in the UK, we needed super lightweight food and mixed up quick cook dried noodles with a cup-a-soup (instant soup), added some freeze-dried onions and mushrooms and maybe a few bits of salami or other dried sausage. Just add boiling water, stir and wait 5 mins before eating. Delicious. Breakfast would be instant porridge oats, some milk powder, a spoonful of cocoa powder and maybe a few raisins. Just add boiling water and voilà!pennyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16660580579772048690noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18615538.post-9379522409515187822011-12-14T12:28:13.757-07:002011-12-14T12:28:13.757-07:00You can't go wrong with a Rab sleeping bag, a ...You can't go wrong with a Rab sleeping bag, a product born in my former home town of Sheffield, UK! It's quality, well-made gear. I just love their down products.pennyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16660580579772048690noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18615538.post-85612770808855706672011-12-13T23:20:29.872-07:002011-12-13T23:20:29.872-07:00The Cascadias are my favorite. I am not used to such high levels of sodium, so I develop an insatiable thirst that even dries out my lips to the point of chapping sometimes. I do a lot of wraps with packets of tuna. And candy bars. When I shop for backpack food, it looks like I'm about to attempt death by chocolate.Karenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01212228308225991239noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18615538.post-39675936450531708592011-12-13T22:57:06.907-07:002011-12-13T22:57:06.907-07:00I don't do hot food or camp food either. Cold pizza, potato wedges, fluffernutter wraps (add banana or apple to be healthy) - all superb.

And someone needs to design a "mummy"-type bag for stomach sleepers. Some mornings it takes forever to untangle myself from rolling over and over and over all night!Jessehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16059092127913479264noreply@blogger.com
