Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. ...Mike,

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. The trailhead is kind of a secret among Thane residents. I promised Geoff I wouldn't divulge the information on my blog. But if you want the beta in private, shoot me an e-mail at jillhomer66@hotmail.com. I don't think this particular trail is a viable way to Hawthorne, even in the summer. The cliff off of Middle Peak and subsequent knife ridge would necessitate climbing gear even without snow, in my opinion. Better to go up Sheep Creek Trail to Powerline Ridge, and traverse over to Hawthorne from there.

And Anon, I maybe failed to convey that we were on the Sheep Creek Trail when they ran ahead, a trail that I have hiked many, many times, and Geoff and Dan were both chilled from waiting for me to inch down the steep drainage. I got lost on this thoroughfare due to my own inattention - they had no reason to expect I'd get lost there of all the places we went that day. I'm the stupid one, but I'm a big girl. I got myself out just fine. (Trails here are rugged and I "get lost" fairly often, but this is one of the nice things about trekking in Juneau - just follow water, and eventually you'll reach the sea.)Jill Homerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02983065990450931943noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18615538.post-67626309746983881472010-02-22T20:23:30.240-07:002010-02-22T20:23:30.240-07:00Geoff and Dan were so far ahead that they left you...Geoff and Dan were so far ahead that they left you to get lost?? WTF?! Coming back to find you doesn't excuse it; you should never have been left behind like that when you were clearly exploring the edges of your comfort zone.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18615538.post-84106755851925505182010-02-20T19:11:05.015-07:002010-02-20T19:11:05.015-07:00Hawthorne Ridge, huh. They all are, but those 2 REALLY speak to me.

Have you thought about taking photography classes? (I never have time myself, but another blogger discovered an online class that looks really cool - let me know if you want more details).

Jill, you are at least 50% the reason I chose Alaska to move to 2008, and posts like these make me want to move back!!!!Karen Travelshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04241208305942623471noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18615538.post-74665487487869684972010-02-20T03:06:53.735-07:002010-02-20T03:06:53.735-07:00Some VERY cool photos today...Some VERY cool photos today...Fonkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04504462046067745769noreply@blogger.com
