Video blog

Since I discovered the motion picture button on my camera, I have become more interested in doing a little video blogging. Not a whole lot - because most home movie clips usually weave between grating and boring and mine are no different. I shot some footage up at Eaglecrest yesterday. I wasn't going to post it. Mostly because video always seems to take something I find scary and exhilarating - such as shimmying through fresh, heavy powder at a barely controlled 10 mph - and makes it look like a flatly lit slog down a ski slope. Plus, I shot an introduction, forgetting that my face was covered in mud from the sloppy climb and my bike helmet was pushed way back because that's what it takes to strap a camera to my forehead. I realized that I've never appeared "live" on my own blog before. This first shot doesn't make for a very flattering portrait. But then I remembered ... I've been doing this blog exhibitionist thing for more than two years. Since when have I worried about flattering or boring? So I'm posting my video blog No. 3. I attached a good song to it to make it more entertaining: "On the Radio" by Regina Spektor.

  4. Great Jill! Wow... I feel like I'm skiing, but in slow motion. How did that mud taste??? Delish no doubt. Music is VERY cool

  5. spring is schizo. one day melting, one day dumping. the best is when it stays below freezing. the ground hard and ridable. the air cold, but relatively warm, the smell of spring from previous melting under new snow. a battle between seasons. and the daylight! out playing until 9pm sunsets! makes springtime mornings even harder than during the dead of january winter. life is good. thanks for the demonstration of why we live at high latitudes.

  6. That ski resort is closed during the middle of the week, so there aren't many people there. After this weekend, it will be closed all the time, because it's spring :-)

It is pretty silly to drag my bike up a ski slope rather than just hiking with my snowboard and riding a few of the faster runs. The bike is really hard to control in new snow and it makes for slow, bumpy runs. But then, I can't ride my snowboard from my house up to the resort. I keep hoping I'll just get better at this whole downhill mountain biking thing.

  10. Extra entertaining to a flatlander. Rode into work with only a single layer on today but still enjoy the peace of that snowy run. Fantastic.

PS: Since you're new to posting video. The technical term is "vlog" (ie: video blogging). Keep it up.

  12. Hey Jill, great little video. Most excellent choice on the Regina Spektor song. I've used several of her songs on videos I've done, including celereation videos for our company Christmas parties.

Hey, just wanted to let you know that we are gearing up for another 12hrs. If you email me, I will send you an invite to be a contributor of the blog. Date is not firm yet, but looks like next Saturday or the one after that. Up in the air yet.

    Cheers.

  13. Nice Vid! Seems you roll nicely on 8inches of fresh snow with 4 inch tyres. I can only imagine how an 80kg guy would sink!

Did you edit out a little cornering blunder? It would have been entertainment to see. :) guess that is the hard part in heavy powder.

  15. Thanks for sharing the video. It gives us a glimpse down here in Texas of the spring conditions up there in Alaska. It is amazing to me how you get out and ride in it. Way to go.
Also liked the song. Paul C in Texas
