It seems as I learn and grow,
There's less that I know.

  7. Happy Birthday! I'll be turning 31 on December 20th this year. It is so true that the more you know, the more you realize you don't know. Which is OK. ;)

  11. Happy day! Was sorry to hear about the flat. LOve the sound of those big tires though - like the drone of a bagpipe!

  18. Story of the flat:

1.) Jill is shuttling all of her belongings from one apartment to another.
2.) Only Pugsley and Roadie are left at her old apartment, because they have been stored in a closet all summer long.
3.) Jill only has time to drop by her old apartment before the Thursday Night Ride.
4.) Jill takes Pugsley to group ride. It's the first time in more than two months that Pugsley has been ridden.
5.) Jill remembers how much she loves Pugsley, even when grunting the beast up steep singletrack.
6.) Jill discovers that Pugsley is amazing fun in rock gardens. Instead of actually picking a line, she can just monster-truck over everything, whooping and hollering.
7.) Jill then discovers that bald Endomorph tires are bad news on moto-dust trails, and tries to survive as best she can by skidding down them with the rear wheel locked out.
8.) Somewhere in the midst of this, the valve stem on the rear tube busts and leaks out all the air.
9.) Jill brought a patch kit, but her only spare tube is a 26", 1.9-2.1" mountain bike tube.
10.) With the help of two gracious TNR riders and their CO2 cartridges, she tries her best to make tiny tube work.
11.) Even at low pressure, tiny tube is stretched to the limit in giant tire, and the tube fails.
12.) Jill and Pugsley walk all the way back up the trail as TNR riders continue down. Jill has to carry Pugsley on her shoulder because the flat tire rolls off the rim if she pushes the bike.
    13.) Pugsley is heavy.
14.) Jill reaches road and starts down. It starts to get dark.
15.) Thirty minites later, gracious TNR rider Norm drives up the road in his truck and rescues Jill and Pugsley. Jill is very grateful for new friends and kindness. Jill will bring adequate tube next time she takes Pugsley out for a ride, and not assume that tiny tubes can be made to work.
    16.) Thanks, Norm.

... Thanks for the birthday wishes! I wish I could say I was doing something fun, but I have to get this move and all the cleaning done before the weekend. Sigh, procrastination.

  22. Ohhh....Endomorph flats are the worst kind of flats. At least it wasn't 40 below with a stiff wind.

  24. Happy Birthday Jill! Hopefully you can find time to sneak out and "ride your age". 31 miles with 3,100 feet of vert should do it...easy cheesy for you.

  30. Happy Birthday; and thanks for the info about the small tube. That's all that I carry with me (2) although I have one "fat" tire - I thought they would work!
I'm going out now to swap a small tube for a fat tube.

  34. Always celebrate a birthday. If the day itself is busy, designate another day! After 31 years what's a day or two one way or the other!

  38. My bike has a flat right now! I wish I had you here to help me fix it. When it comes to bikes, I pretty much know where the handle bars and pedals are...and that's about it.
